YANGON DIVISION- Locals reported that the ward administrators in Thanlyin Township have been asking ten thousand kyats per household to repair damaged electric circuits and lamp posts due to the storm.
On May 15, the ward administrator of Ayetharyar Quarter who lives at Thazin (1) Street asked for donations to restore electricity that had been cut off due to the damages in the storm, stated a resident.
“They have already asked for donations (ten thousand kyats for each house ) in Thazin 1 & 2 streets and Baho 1 & 2 streets. Every civilian is having a hard time after the coup and the recent storm, but they are extorting from us. When I contacted the Thanlyin Township Electric Power Corporation (EPC), they replied they had not asked for any donations or else. I hope the responsible persons could take care of it sooner,” said a local.
Currently in Yangon, some townships were cut off from electricity due to the damages (fallen trees and lamp posts, wires damages)caused by the storm. The EPC announced that electricity would be restored after clearing the damages.
