TANINTHARYI DIVISION – 17 bodies have been recovered from the sinking of the passenger boat going from Kyaukka village of Pulaw township to Myeik in Tanintharyi division. U Win Naung of “the Survival Charitable Association (Myeik)” said that 70 survivors have been found and the search for the missing bodies is still ongoing.
The passenger boat sank in the sea near Kyaukka village, Pulaw township, on the night of October 20th. So far, 17 bodies have been found. Around 70 people have been found alive and many are still missing. He explained that the recently sunken passenger boat has yet to be found.
“The bodies totally found were 17, 9 on yesterday, and 8 the day before yesterday. There are about 70 that can be rescued alive. There are many people who are missing. The nearby islands I have run out of places where the body could be found. That’s why these corpses were found. As for the rest of the bodies, there is a sense that they will be able to find only if we are able to find the boat. The bodies were being stuck in a boat. The sunken boat has not been found at all,” said U Win Naung from the Survival Charity Association (Myeik).
The people on board the passenger boat that sank included those who returned to their homes in Pulaw Township for the Thadingyut holiday and then going back to Thailand, refugees from war and students who come home for the Thadingyut holiday. It was learned that the boat left at night and sank 15 minutes after departure.
