SHAN STATE – In Special Region 1 under control of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in northern Shan State, 38 civilians and 5 prisoners of war were killed and 124 people were injured by junta airstrikes during four months, announced MNDAA.
From July to October this year, the junta council is said to have carried out over 50 airstrikes targeting non-military areas in Special Region 1, killing at least 38 civilians and injuring 124 and five POWs were also killed.
MNDAA said that the coup army of Min Aung Hlaing has been resorting to indiscriminate airstrikes every time they suffer losses in battles and that the coup army sent jet fighters to bomb the non-military zones in Special Region 1 following frequent losses in Lashio. The areas targeted by junta airstrikes include Laukkai, the capital of Special Region 1, Hsenwi District and other areas.
Lashio has also become a target of junta airstrikes and MNDAA explained that the attempts to destroy crowded areas such as schools, hospitals and basic buildings ruin the livelihoods of the people and is a threat preventing residents from returning home and restarting their businesses.
Min Aung Hlaing’s coup army continuously carried out indiscriminate airstrikes in Lashio, Laukkai, Hsenwi and other areas during October, even bombing and destroying historic religious buildings such as the pagoda in Ward 1 and the Guanyin Temple in Ward 5 of Lashio, and although there were no battles, Min Aung Hlaing’s coup army carried out at least 50 airstrikes in Special Region 1 including Lashio, dropping over 200 bombs.
25 of those junta airstrikes killed 38 civilians and injured 124 and five POWs were also killed in other airstrikes while countless buildings including homes, hotels, schools, factories and religious buildings were destroyed, causing unmeasurable damages to public properties, according to MNDAA.
