TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Myeik-Dawei passenger buses were stuck at Pala checkpoint in Palaw Township, as reported by Pala locals and the passenger lines.
It is said that the junta council had blocked the road from 9 o’clock in the morning of June 16, and buses have not been allowed to go yet as of 2:30 that afternoon.
A woman answering the phone from a passenger line said, “Yes, I heard that the cars are stuck because of the fighting. As they are in a large group, there’s no need to worry about the passengers.”
However, local people and the local People’s Defence Force said that there was no battle in the region, and that it was just unilateral fire from the Pala police station towards the villages of Pawutkone and Kade.
“We heard the sounds of heavy weapons since morning until now. For some of the rounds, we only heard the sound of shooting but did not hear the sound of explosion,” a Pala resident said at 2:30 p.m. on June 16.
It is reported that junta army columns are also active in the villages of Zayathsate and Tapo, and the military situation in Pala is still tense.
Myeik District Battalion 1, People’s Defence Army, has announced that the public should not use the Myeik-Palaw Road between 7:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
