“He was the musician I liked since I was very young. I didn’t plan to meet him to do song-making, but Sakamoto-san started to make film scores after his group activity right?
I’ve been receiving offers for movie and drama soundtracks, but I had to turn them down since I was busy making my album. But, I’ve been getting a lot of offers again now. So, I wanted to meet him and ask what made him enter into the film score industry from a popular band. I love talking with musicians.
I was hoping to meet Ryuichi Sakamoto-san, whom I respect very much, to talk about music. At that time, I was making the song ‘Snooze’, and he listened to it. Ever since I was young, I was hoping that he could make a line like this, and he (willingly) accepted it (to work on the song).
He was very ill when working on the song, so I said to him “please take care of yourself (please don’t work too hard)”.
But, he worked on the song while he was hospitalized and sent it to me. So, I got very emotional and was very thankful because it’s not easy to do that much/that’s not an easy thing to do.
He was a very wonderful person and an amazing musician. I’ve only met him once, but it felt like I had known him for a long time so I felt at ease/comfortable.
Also my philosophy and thoughts on music were very similar to him, so I was very surprised.
