AYEYARWADDY DIVISION- It is reported that the junta council ordered in September first week that civil employees in the Ayeyarwaddy Division would be promoted only if they signed a commitment to be trained and serve in the military when necessary, reported a source close to the regional military council officers.
“If the government (departmental) staff want to be promoted, they must attend military training in Phaung Gyi, as instructed by Nay Pyi Taw. Every graduates who has passed the officer examination in townships must complete military training, and they also have to sign an agreement to go front line when necessary,” said the informer.
According to the staff in Dhanupyu Township, many people are absent without leave and fewer people sign up for promotions due to such directives of the military council.
“It is like the rest of the staff have to do the soldier’s work. Even having to go out to the front line is too much. Some employees in the office were absent without leave and ran away. Those who have been promoted have already signed up for the training course, so they are complaining,” said an education staff.
“This instruction makes it more obvious that the strength of the military council has decreased. Now that government staff in other sectors are being asked to sign to for military training and even have to agree to go to the frontline, there may be more desertions and absence without leave,” pointed out a CDM healthcare worker.
