SAGAING DIVISION- According to truckdrivers and transport services, Kalaywa-Maharmyaing Road, which had been closed for almost a month due to intense fighting, was allowed to be reused by the local defense forces on the evening of December 1.
A person close to the truck service said, “The small private cars and SoeMoeThu travel buses passed the gates yesterday. They said they would let all the other cars pass, but currently, only the trapped cars (in the battle zone) are allowed to pass through. I’m not sure if the road is accessible later,” he said.
Since October 6, there have been clashes between the military council and the local defense forces on the Kalaywa-Mahamaying road, and the local defense forces have closed down the lanes.Hundreds of cars were trapped on that road due to the closedown; there was a shortage of fuel and goods in Kalay Town, and the locals faced difficulties.”
Gasoline cars have returned to the town. When Mahamyaing Road was not accessible, the price of a liter of gasoline reached nearly 50,000 kyats. It will be convenient for the locals when Mahamyaing Road reopens,” said a resident of Kalay.
The Kalay-Gangaw road connecting Kalay Town to the lower part of Myanmar has been closed for 2 years now, and the residents of Kalay, Tamu, and Kalaywa Towns use the Kalaywa-Mahamaying road as a priority for travel, trade, and tourism.
