YANGON DIVISION- Residents reported that more than 200 houses in Pearl 3 Ward, Mingaladon Township, were said to be squatters and were destroyed by the large force of junta forces and the municipality, leaving about 800 people homeless.
On the morning of May 23, in Mingaladon Township, Shwe Nanthar village group Pearl Ward (3), more than 200 houses near Mya Sabai Road (Police Battalion and along the Joe Phyu Water were destroyed by bulldozers and trucks under the surveillance of junta soldiers, policemen, municipal staff and junta-appointed administrator.
“Yesterday, the army came and destroyed houses in Pearl Ward 3, Shwe Nanthar, and Pyin Min villages with a large number of manpower and vehicles. It was announced that the entire neighborhood would be destroyed, but the army left behind 47 homes belonging to administrator U Thein Tun and his relatives.
Only their plot is left. A total of 200 houses were destroyed. Now, some residents are renting houses in other wards, and half of them are returning to the area. Currently, about 800 people have become homeless,” a resident told the news agency.
It is learned that the Ward Administrator Tin Tun and his son called some gangs to send notice letters to demolish more than 200 houses near the Police Battalion-8, on Mya Sabai Road, Shwe Nanthar Village Group, Mingalardon Township, by May 10.
On May 8, Administrator Tin Tun, together with his son and the gang, distributed letters to demolish the houses and threatened to call the army if they refused to do so, according to the residents.
The administrator, Tin Tun, forced the locals to demolish the houses in Pearl Ward-3 after failing to recruit young men as soldiers under the military service law.
