It has been reported that over 100 junta soldiers, who fled by two motorboats due to attacks by the Arakan Army (AA), are drifting in the Naf River near Maungdaw after being denied entry by Bangladesh.
On July 14, over 100 junta soldiers attempted to enter Bangladesh by two motorboats to escape the AA’s offensive aimed at capturing Maungdaw entirely. However, due to the interception and blockage by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGP), they were unable to return to Maungdaw and are now stranded in the Naf River, according to reports from Bangladesh.
The latest information on the situation of these over 100 junta soldiers has not been disclosed by either the Bangladeshi side or the junta, and there has been no response from the junta yet.
A Bangladeshi official stated that the BGB blocked the junta soldiers, who attempted to cross into Bangladesh fully armed without prior notification.
Due to the AA’s attacks, junta soldiers from Buthidaung and Maungdaw have been seeking refuge in Bangladesh.
In February this year, 330 junta soldiers, and in April, 288 Myanmar soldiers and border guards, as well as 134 junta soldiers in June, fled to Bangladesh, and all of them were sent back to Myanmar by the Bangladesh Government.
