MYANMAR: It was reported that (37) permanent representatives to the United Nations had jointly requested, publishing the statement to immediately stop the atrocities of the junta’s army such as airstrike aiming to the civilians, burning down the houses of the civilians, using the civilians as human shields, recruiting new soldiers and the violence against civilians.
On July 15, the permanent representatives to the United Nations from (37) countries jointly requested as follows at the headquarter of the United Nations in New York, the USA.
It was mentioned in joint statement that the numbers of atrocities and the conflicts have been increasing in Myanmar. Due to the violations of international humanitarian laws and universal human rights, there have been increasing numbers of the conflicts concerned with humanitarian issues throughout the country, Myanmar, which are the extremely worrying situations.
The situations such as using the internally displaced people including Rohinga from Rakhine as human shields, planting landmines near the internally displaced camps and using the displaced camps as the military based stations are extremely under concern. Moreover, forcibly recruiting the civilians and the children from minority ethnic groups as soldiers by the junta’s army and its subordinate organizations is also the burning issue, as mentioned in the joint statement.
The humanitarian issues can be deteriorated and the tension between ethnic groups can be intensified due to the forcibly recruiting the children from minority group and civilians. The situations such as airstrike by junta’s army over the civilians’ properties and private properties without caring the owners, burning down the civilians’ houses, attacking the humanitarian assistances and their procedures, and setting restrictions over the humanitarian aids are not acceptable, as mentioned on the joint statement by the permanent representatives to the United Nations.
There have been 18.6 million of people who are in need of humanitarian aids since the junta’s coup in February, 2021. Over 2.9 million of people including 66,00 of people who took refuge in neighboring countries have become homeless. On the other hand, there are over 1 million of Rohinga refugees. It is requested to provide humanitarian aids to all the people who are in need, including women, children, ethnic people and other minorities with full extent, in quick action and full of safety without any restrictions.
Especially, all the parties including the junta’s council need to reduce the atrocities, follow the international humanitarian laws and basic human rights, protect the civilians and fully implement the decision (2669) by the UN Security Council, as jointly demanded by the ambassadors.
In the statement, the importance of ASEAN, appointing a special envoy by UN general secretary are fully supported and to find the solution peacefully and to have the all-inclusive meeting positively are also jointly demanded.
(37) Countries demanding solutions for Myanmar issue are Albania , Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, Turkiye, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
