MAGWAY DIVISION – Without any battle, Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion of the junta council in Magway Division fired heavy weapons, killing one civilian and injuring two, reported Mr. Aung Gyi from Yaw Alinntan.
On July 17 at 8:00 p.m., the junta artillery battalion in Kyaukhtu fired 17 rounds of 120 MM heavy weapons to the north-west, north and south-west of their camp. One heavy weapon exploded on a house in Kyantaw Village.
Because of that explosion, Mr. Win Aung, 55-year-old was hit in his head and died while Mr. Thein Win, 63-year-old and Ms. Khin Than Aye, 46-year-old were severely injured.
“Without any battle, they are attacking recklessly with 120 MM heavy weapons to the neighboring villages. There were explosions near the villages and on the schools on the other days but no civilian was injured although one cow died. Last night, the shell fell on the house in Kyantaw Village and all three people in that house were hit by the explosion. Mr. Win Aung, 55-year-old died. The other injured people were evacuated by the related organizations. We heard the injuries were severe and they will be transferred to the hospital. Their house was totally destroyed,” said Mr. Aung Gyi from Yaw Alinntan.
Battalian Commander Lieutenant Colonel Bhone Win (Batch 45) is leading the junta Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion and from the night of jJuly 15, they have been attacking the neighboring villages with heavy weapons. Yaw Alinntan requested the civilians not to sleep on the upper floor of the houses and to live and sleep with vigilance under the shelters that can withstand the heavy weapons.
“Some civilians evacuated to other places but most of them could not evacuate because now is the time for farming and planting rice. We would like to warn the people not sleep on the upper floor of the houses and sleep at the ground floor at night,” said Mr. Aung Gyi from Yaw Alinntan.
