MYANMAR – 203 civilian organisations issued a request to replace the junta council with the National Unity Government (NUG) at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting and related events.
The organisations sent the request to remove the junta council from Myanmar affairs to ASEAN on July 18.
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting and related events will be held in Vientiane, Laos from July 21 to 27 and there have been requests to ban the junta council from the meeting and to invite the NUG that represents the Myanmar people instead.
The 203 civilian organisations stated that the junta council has usurped the power from the people in an illegitimate coup and is terrorising the people daily and expressed their concerns that Laos allowed the junta council to attend the meeting when they took on the role of ASEAN Chair.
The organisations said that if the ASEAN nations including Laos recognize and invite the junta council to the meeting, it will be considered to be through the backdoor.
The organisations are requesting ASEAN to not allow the junta council to represent the people of Myanmar in response to its failure to comply with and implement the five ASEAN consensus.
