SHAN STATE – A family of three fleeing the war in Lashio by motorcycle got into an accident on July 19 around 6 p.m., according to reports by local social volunteer groups.
The motorcycle of the family crashed into a car at the entrance of Nanyang Village in Lashio Township. It is said that the husband died in the crash while the wife and the child were heavily injured.
“We don’t know their identities yet. We only saw the photos. We only found out that they were from Lashio after we found a guarantee letter from the husband. The wife reportedly received injuries to her head and it is said that the child is also in a serious condition,” said a person close to the site of the accident.
The family of three lived in Ward No. 9 of Lashio and the wife and child are receiving treatment at Namlan Hospital according to acquaintances.
“Fleeing the war by motorcycle at this time means they were really desperate. Because it is hard to flee the city in advance due to high expenses, many only flee when the battles are breaking out, so there are reports of civilian casualties everyday,” said a ground source.
Although the period of ceasefire has been extended following mediation by China, fighting is still intense between the junta council and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) as well as the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in three townships including Lashio.
