MYANMAR – Terrorist junta chief Min Aung Hlaing is reported to have detained former Navy Commander in Chief Zwe Win Myint for failure to fulfill duty and disobedience.
It is said that the senior officer was removed from his position and detained due to not following the orders of Min Aung Hlaing and failing to fulfill his responsibility and the navy being unable to effectively counter the offensive of AA by having naval bases in Rakhine State attacked and losing navy ships.
“Navy Commander in Chief General Zwe Win Myint was ordered by the Commander in Chief to use the Navy for defense in Rakhine State and to cooperate with the army timely for defense. But they lost bases and the navy commander submitted his resignation as the navy is unable to follow orders. The resignation was accepted and he was detained in Nay Pyi Taw for negligence of duty and disobedience,” said a Nay Pyi Taw source.
‘Major General Htein Lin was appointed as the new Navy Commander in Chief and Brigadier General Aye Min Htwe and Major General Tun Lu were appointed as the deputy commanders in chief but the lower ranked soldiers are said to be dissatisfied with the removal of General Zwe Win Myint. There are navy forces from Botahtaung Thanlatzun Navy Base abandoning their posts every day. The navy security forces for Annawa and Bayintnaung staff housings as well as the staff housings in Bahan were sent to the frontline in Rakhine State since three months ago and many of them ended up dying or MIA. They are of the opinion that General Zwe Win Myint was removed from his position while protecting his subordinates,” explained the source.
General Zwe Win Myint became the 16th Navy Commander in Chief, replacing General Moe Aung on January 8, 2024 and barley lasted six months in the position before getting removed and detained.
