YANGON DIVISION – Mr. Theik Tun Oo, a member of the leading committee of the Political Prisoners Network Myammar (PPNM), said that a large number of male and female political prisoners were transferred from Insein Prison to Daik U Prison and Thayarwaddy Prison.
The political prisoners were transferred prisons in the early morning of July 21st. There were 200 male political prisoners and 60 female political prisoners sent to Daik U Prison and the number of political prisoners transferred to Thayarwaddy prison is still under investigation.
“Currently political prisoners are being transferred prisons, which is carefully planned and managed by the prison authorities like an operation. The political prisoners are being dispersed to prevent any form of movement in prison from June 19th, the birthday of public leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, until August 8th, the 8888 uprising anniversary. I would also like to say that no matter how many prisons they are transferred to, political prisoners will always march together with the people,” said Mr. Theik Tun Oo.
Because of the prison transfers, there will be more difficulties for the families of political prisoners to visit or send parcels. Mr. Theik Tun Oo explained that a family of the working class who normally spends 100,000 to send a parcel will now have to spend more to send the parcel with added costs for car fare and accommodation, and it will not be easy to send it regularly.
