KACHIN STATE – Locals reported that the telecommunications and internet were out of service for three days in most of the townships, including Myitkyina and Hpakant.
The telecommunications and internet were out of service, starting on the morning of July 21, and have not been restored until the evening of July 23.
“It was out of service on the morning of July 21, affecting almost all townships in Kachin state, including Myitkyina, Hpakant and Waingmaw. The areas with Star Link have internet access. In Hpakant, people installed Star Link, so we can use the internet there,” said a local resident.
Due to the interruption of telecommunications and the internet, online payments were no longer available in Myitkyina City. There are difficulties in transferring and withdrawing money. All businesses were affected by the interruption.
“K Pay was no longer used. And Online Banking was out of service. We don’t know what happened where and why. Socio-economic life is very affected,” said an owner of an online currency exchange service provider in Myitkyina.
In Myitkyina town, the MPT office has opened Star link internet for emergency internet access, some local people said that they were still able to use the internet at the MPT office for a while.
