KAREN STATE – A source from the Karen National Union (KNU) reported that former Deputy Chairman Padoh Naw Zipporah Sein passed away on July 24.
Naw Zipporah Sein had served as a central committee member, general secretary, and deputy chairman in the KNU.
“She had been suffering from an illness for about a year. It was cancer. She had been in and out of the hospital for roughly a year since she first learned about it,” said a KNU source.
Naw Zipporah Sein is remembered for her dedication not only to the KNU but also for her efforts towards peace in Myanmar and building alliances.
“The unfinished responsibilities will have to continue,” the KNU source added.
The former Deputy Chairman of the KNU was 69 years old at the time of her passing.
Naw Zipporah Sein was the daughter of former KNU Chairman General Saw Tamla Baw and her mother, Naw Poe Kaw Wah, was a schoolteacher who also served as the chairperson of the Karen Women’s Organization (KWO). She had also held the positions of general secretary and deputy chairman in the KNU, according to the Karen National Media.
Naw Zipporah Sein opposed the military coup, advocated for the end of military dictatorship, and encouraged ethnic organizations and the People’s Defense Forces to unite in the Spring Revolution to establish a federal democratic union.
