RAKHINE STATE – Local residents reported that there is flooding in Gwa Township, Thandwe Township and Toungup Township starting July 25 morning.
“There is flooding in Toungup Town. A large number of houses are affected. Villages and houses are all under the water in Lamu of Toungup. People have to move to tall buildings and hills,” said a resident of Toungup.
Similarly, in Thandwe, almost all residential wards are flooded, troubling the residents and displaced people.
“It has been raining nonstop. The water level only fell for a couple of hours during low tide. But when it rose again, the rain was so heavy that the water level rose even higher. We don’t know if there are any battles or fighting. We are just moving to escape the flood,” said a resident.
It is said that the rescue works are being carried out by the residents themselves and there is no organisation taking charge of the rescue operations.
All three townships are areas where the junta council and the Arakan Army (AA) are locked in combat but neither side has made official statements regarding the rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the residents are suffering from the flooding in addition to the conflicts and are said to be in need of assistance.
