YANGON DIVISION – Local social volunteer teams reported that over 70 houses were destroyed by a tornado in two villages of Kungyangon Township.
The tornado hit the villages at around 5 a.m. on July 26 and a total of 71 houses in Kamyinkone and Nyaungnikone Villages were damaged and over 300 people were affected, according to Yangon Rescue Organisation.
An official from Muditha Social Volunteer Team who helped out at the site explained that strong winds fell large trees and damaged the houses.
“All roads in Kamyinkone Village were blocked by trees. The houses were also crashed. We had to cut a way in using our chainsaws when we reached there. The lampposts also fell,” said the official.
He continued that the local social volunteer teams and the fire department are helping out in the area, adding that there were only minor injuries.
Yangon Rescue Organisation informed that shelters and clothes are needed for the people affected by the tornado.
