MYANMAR – The price of fuel is reported to have risen by around 100 Kyats per litre as the country faces yet another fuel shortage.
In Yangon on August 2, a litre of Octane 92 jumped to 2770 Kyats per litre, an increase of 140 Kyats from the previous day’s price of 2630 Kyats. Octane 96 also similarly rose by 145 Kyats from 2750 Kyats per litre to 2895 per litre while HSD 500 ppm went from 2365 Kyats to 2450 Kyats per litre and HSD 50 ppm and 10ppm rose to 2920 Kyats from 2770 Kyats per litre, an increase of 85 Kyats and 150 Kyats respectively.
“The fuel prices went up but they can’t meet the demand. There are long queues at almost every gas stations. The gas stations don’t open even at 6 a.m. The queue is really long. We have a hard time buying even though the prices went up. I have to queue since 5 a.m.,” shared a taxi driver in Yangon.
Similarly in other big cities including Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay, there are said to be long queues at gas stations starting around 5 a.m. in the morning on August 2.
