MAGWAY DIVISION- Soldiers of Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion reportedly set fire to 18 houses in Anaint Village, Saw Township last Saturday (August 3), stated Mr Ba Kaung from Yaw Alintan (Light) Group.
On August 3, around 2:00 a.m., about 120 soldiers from the Terrorist Military Council’s 368 Artillery Battalion (Based in Kyaukhtu) attacked Anaint Village after passing through Min, Lattpan and Pasoke Villages. Junta troops reportedly entered Anaint village at around 10:00 a.m. and started burning down the houses of the people.
As a result of the arson attack, 18 houses out of 130 houses in the village were burnt to ashes. The terrorist military council soldiers returned the way they came at 2:00 p.m. and entered the 368 Artillery Battalion in Kyaukhtu Township at 6:00 p.m.
“It’s been a long time since there was a battle at Kyaukhtu Township. Last August 1, the wife of a soldier in the Kyaukhtu Army, whose hometown is Anyaint village, ran away as she no longer wanted to stay in the army. She didn’t return to her home but the junta army likely torched the village since she ran away. This is done to threaten the people (of the Yaw region) living in the Kyaukhtu Army that junta troops would burn down the village if they ran away. Junta troops have been torching any village they wanted to,” Mr. Ba Kaung from Yaw Alintan reported to the media.
The commander Phone Win of the 368 Battalion was slandered by superior officers regarding the married woman (of Anyaint village) running away from the Kyaukhtu Artillery Battalion. As a result of this slander, the battalion commander entered the village with a large force and burned it down.
