MANDALAY DIVISION – It was reported that the Mogok – Mandalay Road which was controlled by the allied revolutionary forces for the past few days has been reopened on August 5 morning.
It is said that the revolutionary forces had closed it for a few days to lower the transportation fares since the drivers were manipulating the price.
“I heard that the transportation fare will go down. I couldn’t even take my parents from Mogok since the fare from Mogok to Yangon was 600,000 kyats per person,” said a refugee.
Previously, the Mogok- Mandalay fare was around 500,000 – 600,000 kyats, but after the reopening of the road this morning, the revolutionary forces demanded that the drivers refund 250,000 kyats.
Although the road has been reopened, there are still very few people on the road because of the curfew from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
“They (the drivers) were asking 600,000 kyats per person and carried up to seven people, packing people like fish paste. They also carry many cargo as well,” said a person who remains in Mogok.
Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Mogok Strategy and Mandalay People’s Defence Force (MDY PDF) have jointly controlled Mogok and it is reported that most of the young residents in the city joined the revolutionary groups this week.
