MANDALAY DIVISION – Brigadier General Aung Lwin, the Deputy Regional Commander for junta Central Division who is currently tried in martial court for abandoning his post during the battle in Mogok told the court that he fled from the battle due to insufficient reinforcement.
On July 24 around 5 p.m., the coalition forces led by People’s Defence Force (PDF) Mandalay and Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) completely captured Mogok. At that time, the junta military column led by Brigadier General Aung Lwin was sent as reinforcement to Mogok but the Deputy Regional Commander told the court that they had to turn back to Mandalay due to insufficient reinforcement, according to CDM Captain Zin Yaw.
“He had claimed that he had back pain because he didn’t want to go to Mogok. But he returned to office after the case regarding Regional Commander Kyi Khaing broke out. Then the new Regional Commander forced him to leave (to Mogok). A Deputy Commander should have tanks, cannons and soldiers to make it a column led by one. But there are way too many generals in the junta army now. So they kicked him off to say they sent the Deputy Regional Commander. A Deputy Regional Commander is also nothing more than an ordinary soldier without his force. That probably got into his feelings and so at court, after being warned to speak only the truth, he admitted that he turned back because he was not given sufficient force,” shared CDM Captain Zin Yaw.
The CDM Captain shared that the situation inside the junta military is leading to potential rebellion, that the generals no longer have a good future as they would get arrested after being sent to war and might face arrests, death and betrayal.
