MYANMAR – The junta council’s Ministry of Labour announced on August 15 that people leaving to work overseas with PV passport (tourism passport) will not be allowed to leave the country.
The junta ministry said that those who applied for jobs overseas with PV passports will be prohibited from leaving the country at the airports or border gates.
The announcement also said that those working overseas will need to apply for PJ passport (employment passport) and will only be allowed to leave with said passport.
The junta council issued this announcement after several cases of PV passport holders being barred from leaving the country.
In the announcement, the junta council mentioned that they have knowledge of people getting employment overseas after leaving the country with PV passports and also threatened that those working overseas on PV passports will not receive assistance when they run into problems abroad.
The junta council has further tightened the restrictions on those planning to work overseas by requiring a PJ passport as well as an OWIC (overseas worker identification card).
The coup council, facing international sanctions due to its war crimes and blatant violation of human rights, is seeing its foreign currency reserves running dry and to resolve that, turned to taxing the Myanmar people working overseas and ordering that 25% of the salary must be transferred back home.
The junta regime also threatened that those who do not have proof of tax payment or transferring money home will not be allowed to renew their passports.
