SHAN STATE – The junta subordinate militia, Pa’O National Army (PNA) demanded that the villages near Sankar Town in southern Inle of Nyaungshwe Township buy them a car per village, according to residents.
PNA reportedly ordered Linlan, Minywar and Naungvo Villages near Sankar to buy and deliver a 4 Wheel drive vehicle for jungle travel by August 19.
“Things are so tough now that we can’t even refill fuel for our own motorcycles. Yet we have to buy a car for them. Where are we to get the money? It is said that each household will have to pay around three lakhs. Those who can’t afford will enter negotiations,” said a resident of Linlan Village.
The cars have to be delivered to Hteeree Village. Meanwhile, the villages in Pekhon Township reportedly have to bear the costs of meals and military expenses for PNA.
“The village chief tried to talk it out but they didn’t accept. They only threatened that they will ask the junta council to bomb the village if they don’t get the car,” said a resident of Minywar Village.
The residents of the villages near Sankar fled their homes to escape the conflicts in the last week of June but we’re forced to return after the situation calmed down as PNA threatened to torch the empty houses.
It is said that the residents are hugely troubled with the money as PNA did not provide any help when they were displaced and even sold their cars when they came back.
