SAGAING DIVISION – Locals reported that the atrocious junta army bombarded Letpanchaung Village at northern Kalay Township where most of the Kachin people live, and also raided and set fire to the villages at southern Kalay Township on August 20.
Sakkant, Shartaw and Thone Ein Su Villages in southern Kalay Township were torched by the junta army. While advancing from Sakkant Village to Shartaw Village on the morning of August 20, the fascist army and Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) had a clash for an hour. After the fighting, the junta thugs burned the houses at Shartaw Village then continued to launch an offensive towards Thone Ein Su Village and torched the houses there again.
A local resident said, “They (junta thugs) are raiding the villages in the southern part of Kalay. Houses at Shartaw and Thone Ein Su were also torched. In addition, they also bombed Letpanchaung Village by airplane”.
The local residents have been reportedly fleeing to safety due to the attacks by military council forces, and thus it is not yet known how many houses were destroyed in the fascist army’s arson attack.
During the battles that started from April 5 in northern Kalay Township, thousands of houses at Kalay-Letpanchaung-Yarzagyo road side were torched and destroyed by junta troops. Since then, the local residents were unable to return home and had to flee.
