MYANMAR- According to the Myanmar Motor Fuel Importers and Distributors Association, there have been discussions between the military council officials to allow the purchase of motor fuel in the whole of Myanmar, including Yangon, only with a smart card.
The Terrorist Junta Council is no longer able to sell the necessary US dollars to the importers of fuel (at a lower price than the market price), so they are discussing starting a system that will allow consumers to purchase fuel with a limit by issuing purchaser smart cards.
“Now the new import permit system has changed. We will be allowed to import products only when we have export earnings. According to this system, there will be changes in the fuel import side as well. They would run a purchaser smart card system. I don’t know when this limitation will start. They are still discussing but an official announcement would come out and be implemented very soon. I don’t know when or how the system for fuel purchase would be. Discussions are already underway,” said a source from the Myanmar Fuel Importers and Distributors Association.
Gasoline stores often have shortages of fuel and there are long queues to buy. As the Military Council will not always be able to sell US dollars to import fuel, there would be policy changes.
