MYANMAR – The junta military intelligence reported that PDF and UG forces trained by the Karen National Union (KNU) might be leaking into Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwaddy Divisions and that there may also be weapons being smuggled. The report is reportedly based on information from 22 informers and four spies.
The report mentioned that PDF forces are gathered at KNU Brigade 1 and 3 and the PDF and UG forces are entering Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwaddy Division using trade routes and making use of connection with traders and are waiting for shipment of weapons.
It was also mentioned that the NUG is also sending the PDF currently at KNU territory back to Bago Division, Yangon Division and Ayeyarwaddy Division in batches, with latest reports estimating that around 500 PDF and UG forces have infiltrated those regions. According to the report, those revolutionary forces would cross the Sittaung River via the routes used by cattle smugglers and enter the regions from Kawa Township, Zweton, Khayan and Thonekhwa, with some bringing along their own weapons while others are waiting for weapons to be delivered.
The junta military intelligence reported that those PDF and UG forces who have entered the region are divided in safe houses and are awaiting the time to carry out battle operations while acting as workers or students and also carrying out missions and that around two-thirds of the steps to implement urban operations have been completed.
In response to the report, the junta council has ordered for strict checks at checkpoints, told the inspection teams to not accept bribes, warned to take action on those who accept bribes, ordered to conduct regular guest list checks in Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwaddy Divisions as security and to arrest and investigate suspicious individuals.
