SAGAING DIVISION – The People to People (Kawlin) group said that displaced persons are trained how to weave rattan baskets in the western part of Kawlin Township and will help them until their products can be sold in the market.
To provide employment for the people evading war in the west of Kawlin Township, a vocational rattan weaving course has been taught for the first time since the beginning of September. The People to People (Kawlin) group will also help the IDPs to sell their baskets in the market.
The course was opened in 2 places and a total of 34 participants attended, said Mr. The Gyi, the person in charge of People to People (Kawlin).
“This course is to help those fleeing the war to solve their daily living. To continue this vocational training, more supports are needed. Only with the donations from people, we could allocate the resources to people on the ground level,” Mr. The Gyi added.
There are more than 20,000 displaced people in Kawlin Township’s west side. Since the rainy season began, mosquito nets are needed for women and children (to prevent Dengue). In addition, shelter, (tarpaulin), medicine, and basic food items are needed, according to the People to People (Kawlin) Group.
Kawlin town was captured by the revolutionary forces in November 2023 last year, but more than 3 months later, in February 2024, the military council attacked again and took over control until now.
