SOUTH KOREA – South Korea’s NUG office announced that officials of the police station, including the station commander, in Bupyeong township, Incheon, South Korea, and representatives of NUG met and discussed how to help people with overstaying visas and prevent threats by the persons pretending to be a police officer.
Today, September 8th, at 1:00 p.m., a discussion was held at the meeting hall of Bupyeong Police Station. Although Bupyeong Town is not officially designated, it is like a Myanmar Town, and the Myanmar people are welcome to settle there. Knowing the situation of the Burmese people, they would like to help the Burmese people to live in order and safely and peacefully, said Gingisu, station commander of the Bupyeong Township Police station.
In the discussion, as representatives of the Myanmar community, National Unity Government-NUG Korea Representative U Yan Naing Tun and members of the office, representatives of Myanmar organizations and some Myanmar entrepreneurs attended.
In addition both parties discussed the common crimes including financial fraud, which is common in Korea, Forced to act as an intermediary in committing crimes, and police impersonation threats. The police station officials have clarified to contact 112 if something happens. On the side of the Myanmar representatives, U Yan Naing Tun said in the statement that Bupyeong is a popular place for Burmese people and the police should not take immediate action against those who overstay their visas.
In the discussion, the Bupyeong Police responded that a person who is abased can get help from the police even though his visa has expired and that he can go to the nearest police station for questioning and confirmation in the case of impersonating the police. In addition, the police and Myanmar representatives jointly carried out a campaign to encourage peace, safety, cleanliness, and discipline in the Burmese villages of Bupyeong township.
