MYANMAR – The Yangon-Mandalay Highway is flooded starting from the 356th mile post within Tada U Township and the traffic has stopped on the highway, according to the people using the highway.
“There was not that much water around 11 a.m. but the flood came in starting around 1 p.m. Now, both sides of the highway are covered in water. The depth is around calf height. The water is flowing. The cars were sharing one side of the road based on understanding. The other side was completely submerged. So only one side was used. But traffic is stopped on both sides now because no one dares continue driving,” said a driver on the highway.
Currently, the highway is flooded around the 354, 355, 356 and 357 mile posts. The villages near the highway are also flooded and the residents are said to have evacuated onto the highway as it is on elevated ground.
It is said that all villages in Tada U Township are flooded and the residents are evacuating and need to be rescued.
