KARENNI STATE – Local news sources reported that the Belu Creek is overflowing and houses are submerged in Loikaw and that the residents are in need of rescue efforts.
Water entered the wards in Loikaw starting September 16, submerging the houses. The flood has reached the center of the city with the water reaching waist height. It is said that the main cause of the flood is the rising water level of Belu Creek.
“In Loikaw, a large number of houses in Namkut, Minsu, Dawnohku, Shanpai and Shwetaung are submerged. The flood is the worst in Namkut. The water level is still rising this morning (September 16). It has reached waist height at Shanpai, the city center,” said a local news source.
Currently, there is a need for rescue efforts to assist and evacuate the people affected by the flood. However the number of households and civilians affected by the flood is not yet known.
