UNITED STATES – Myanmar citizens in the United States held a demonstration on September 21 at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, the United Nations Headquarters in New York to ask that Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun is retained as the UN Permanent Representative for Myanmar at the 79th UNGA.
The demonstration was held as Global Action for Credential Campaign 2024 under the title, “Our Ambassador, Myanmar’s Voice”.
Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun and Minister of Health and Education Dr. Zaw Wai Soe and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Moe Zaw Oo from the National Unity Government (NUG) were said to have delivered opening speeches at the event.
Then the event officials explained about Global Action for Credential Campaign 2024 and the attending representatives from each State and organisation shared their opinions regarding the campaign.
In addition to retaining Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, the demonstrators also urged the international community to not recognize the terrorist junta council that is blatantly breaking the law and to help with the eradication of military dictatorship in Myanmar.
Following that, the demonstrators marched to the New York Time Square, crossing the city centre, while chanting out slogans. Then the Myanmar citizens returned to the UN headquarters and were treated lunch by donors from New York.
The ceremony and the demonstration were arranged by New York based NYCBC and attended by thousands of Myanmar citizens from various states across the United States.
