MYANMAR – The Sangha Union (Mandalay) issued an announcement on October 2, urging the monks to not cooperate with the terrorist junta council in conducting census.
The junta council began conducting census on October 1 and it is said that junta forces started collecting the data of monks at several monasteries starting September 30, with initial plans to conduct census by township. Moreover, the Sangha Maha Nayaka Council under the junta council reportedly informed on September 28 that the data of the people staying in monasteries for various reasons will be collected for the census and issued notices to the division, district and township level Sangha Nayaka teams, ordering the head monks to cooperate to better facilitate the process.
Sangha Union (Mandalay) heavily condemned the Sangha Maha Nayaka Council issuing orders to please the terrorist junta council and stated that the latter has been using force to abduct, train and send, to the frontline, the people all over the country after enacting the conscription law, wasting human resources just so they can hold on to power.
As such, Sangha Union (Mandalay) said that the monks who value righteousness should not cooperate with the instructions of the Sangha Maha Nayaka Council but condemn them.
