MYANMAR – Gangaw District Administration Body has banned the subscription-based Starlink WiFi for one month in Gangaw District to stop military news from leaking.
The team published a ban, referring to the September 30 statement by the office of the No. 1 Military Region under NUG Ministry of Defense, and instructed the ward and village administration teams to carry out works to ban Starlink WiFi for a month.
The team explained that the ban is necessary due to the leaking of military news and instructed to only use the WiFi service for necessary military activities in the district.
“People in Yaw Region are dissatisfied. They are planning protests. I heard that it started in Kawlin. The battalions haven’t shown much reaction as the order came from above,” explained a resident.
Similarly in Lashio, related officials reportedly imposed a temporary ban on Starlink WiFi on October 4 morning to prevent military information from getting out as the junta council continued to conduct airstrikes based on the reports from its informers.
The PDF forces in Kawlin Township similarly banned Starlink WiFi starting at the end of September.
