SAGAING DIVISION – Mr. Theik Htun Oo from Political Prisoners Network, Myanmar (PPNM) said that the Monywa prison authorities have been pressuring to CDM staffs detained in Monywa prison. They were forced to sign an appeal letter with points to allow them to be removed from the CDM list and pressured them to return to duty under the military council.
“They (prison authorities) have been forcing that since September. At present, prisons and other military councils’ department have increasing demands on manpower. Therefore they are forcing those who do CDM from prison department and other employees to return to their original duties,” Mr. Theik Htun Oo from PPNM said.
On the other hand, the CDM political prisoners who did not sign were called to the warden’s office and were asked by prison official Kyaw Win to sign the letter stating that they did not want to submit an appeal. After that, the Monywa prison warden personally summoned the political prisoners who did not sign to think of the family and pressured to sign again.
The Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM) announced that they are still monitoring and investigating whether those CDM employees who did not sign are charged again.
