KACHIN STATE – A local woman was killed on October 7th morning when the junta council opened fire with a heavy weapon into the Aye Mya Thayar neighborhood of Phakan.
“It was shot from the terrorist army hill. It fell on the road in front of the family cafe. A woman who was drinking tea was hit and died. We don’t know how we have to live,” said a local.
Residents said that the Junta Council has been firing heavy weapons from the police battalion of Phakan since around 8:00 p.m. on October 6.
It was reported that the fighting, which started on September 7th in Sai Taung Village, Phakan, ceased fire in the beginning of October. Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and KPDF attacked junta council troops stationed at Lucky Man Hotel in Sai Taung village. Although the hotel staff who were arrested at the hotel have been released, the military council troops are still stationed at the hotel, some residents said.
“The Village was badly hit by the army’s airstrikes. These days, we hear that the junta council is leaving the Lucky Man Hotel. I don’t know why, the fighting is at a standstill,” said a local.
Some local residents also said that KIA had warned them to leave temporarily for safety because the area where the junta council troops were stationed in Sai Taung village will be attacked and wiped out.
