MANDALAY DIVISION – Seven junta policemen robbed 700,000 Kyats from Ms. San San Hlaing, a vendor, at the checkpoint south of Paleik in Sintgaing Township, according to acquaintances of the victim.
Around 4:30 a.m. on October 12, Ms. San San Hlaing from Ywarhaungkone Village left her house for the market bringing her wares and capital when seven junta policemen at the checkpoint north of Ohhteintaung intersection to the south of Paleik on the old Yangon-Mandalay Highway stopped her and robbed her capital of 700,000 Kyats.
“Ms. San San Hlaing sells her wares in Mandalay. She went out at around 4:30 a.m. to set up her shop. There are junta police forces that always set up a checkpoint to the north of Ohhteintaung intersection to extort the passing vehicles. The seven junta policemen there searched her vehicle and seized 700,000 Kyats. She pleaded with them to return her the money as it was her capital but they did not,” explained an acquaintance of Ms. San San Hlaing.
The victim had to return home, unable to set up shop as her capital was robbed and she is said to be in a turmoil as she cannot even report the incident as the perpetrators were the police.
