MYANMAR – Ms. Ywat Nu Aung, a lawyer unjustly detained by the terrorist junta council, has been awarded the XXVIII International Human Rights Award Ludovic Trarieux 2024.
Institut des droits de l’homme des avocats europĂ©ens (IDHAE) Via Emilio de’ Cavalieri in Italy recognised Ms. Ywat Nu Aung for her fair judiciary works and active defense of human rights related to political prisoners and awarded her the XXVIII International Human Rights Award Ludovic Trarieux 2024.
As Ms. Ywat Nu Aung is still detained in Mandalay Ohbo Prison by the terrorist junta council, her award will be received by the NUG Minister of Human Rights Aung Myo Min on her behalf.
The junta council sentenced Ms. Ywat Nu Aung, who served as the attorney for former NLD government officers, to 15 years in prison with hard labour under section 50(j) in 2022.
