MYANMAR – The Ministry of Defence, National Unity Government announced on October 23 that a PDF Deputy Squad Commander who shot and killed a woman was sentenced to ten years in prison with hard labour by the brief military tribunal.
Deputy Squad Commander Pyae Tun Naing (aka) Lin Say of PDF Shwebo District Battalion 2, Company 1, was found guilty of killing the woman from Thakhuttaw Village in Hanlin Prefecture, Wetlet Township.
The two were in a relationship and following an argument, at 3:30 p.m. on February 26, 2024, the PDF officer shot the woman once, killing her. The brief military tribunal was formed to hear the case.
The team of judges from the tribunal heard the case decided that Deputy Squad Commander Pyae Tun Naing (aka) Lin Say was guilty and sentenced him to ten years in prison with hard labour under article 71(a) of the 1959 Army Act/ article 302 (ii) of the Penal Code, as per section 81 of the military tribunal procedures.
The Ministry of Defence, National Unity Government also mentioned that they are taking action and conducting fair trials on crimes committed by the members of the PDF Army as they wish for the PDF to become a disciplined army serving the people.
