MANDALAY DIVISION – After the junta forces recaptured their base at Nganmyargyi Village in Nganzun Township, they have been raiding and torching the villages and it is said that at least six villages have been forced to flee as a result.
A junta column over 150 strong, supported by the air force, attacked and recaptured Nganmyargyi base that was previously captured by revolutionary forces on October 21.
Following that, the junta forces abducted and tortured at least 20 villagers and burned down several houses, reported the residents.
In addition, the junta forces were raiding and torching nearby villages, causing thousands of residents to flee.
“Around six villages are fleeing. No one dares to continue living in the village. The junta soldiers also broke into the grocery shops on the village and looted rice, cooking oil and general goods,” said a resident of a village neighbouring Nganmyargyi Village.
Residents reported that the junta column invaded and torched Yepadai Village in Nganzun Township on October 26 morning, burning down six houses and abducting three civilians.
In addition, junta airstrikes targeting the villages of Tharkyin and Myaytai the previous day also resulted in civilian casualties.
Defence forces captured Nganmyargyi base on August 19. The junta council had been trying to recapture the base since September and junta airstrikes on September 20 had killed 14 civilians.
