MYANMAR – Myanmar is among the top ten worst nations with no accountability for the crimes of abducting and killing journalists in 2024, ranking 10th, according to the 2024 index published by the New York based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on October 30.
Myanmar first made the list in 2022, ranking 11th, again in 2023, ranking 9th, and now ranking 10th in 2024.
Three Myanmar journalists were killed in 2024 and a total of eight journalists have been killed in the country since the military coup, according to CPJ.
As far the data compiled by the Independent Myanmar Journalists Association (IMJA), up to 176 journalists were detained in Myanmar since the 2021 military coup and 52 are still imprisoned.
