TANINTHARYI DIVISION – A junta soldier from light infantry 556 based in Zawae Village, Tanintharyi Township, Myeik District is reported to have brought his weapon and surrendered to Tanintharyi Township People’s Defence Organisation (PDO).
The PDO announced on November 9 that the junta soldier had deserted his post while deployed for guard duty in Tanintharyi and surrendered to the PDO, bringing along a MA2 gun, 20 5.56mm bullets and a cartridge.
The junta soldier is said to have switched sides due to bullying and oppressions in the army and because the junta army has violated its code of conduct and committed atrocities against the people.
He is said to be well taken care of, made contact with People’s Embrace and will be provided assistance as he wishes.
The PDO has urged the junta subordinate soldiers and police in Tanintharyi Division to switch sides in time as casualties will be inevitable when the PDF launches offensive in the region.
