MYANMAR – The junta council reportedly issued a secret order to arrest and interrogate those who took part in the early protests after the military coup on February 1, 2021.
The instruction was published in early November in all regions including Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw and arrived at the related Township police stations on November 8.
“Instructions were sent to the general administration offices and police stations to arrest and interrogate those who took part in the protests in early 2021. The instructions told to especially interrogate them as they may be supporting, donating or supplying information to NUG or PDF,” said a police source.
In Yangon Division and Mandalay Division, the township general administration is reported to have instructed the ward administration officers and junta informers to collect the list of people who took part in the protests after the coup, including their current job, address and even details of their relatives.
In Mon State, junta forces abducted 58 year old Mr. Aung Khaing and his nephew from Bihlaing Ward in Mawlamyaing who took part in the early protests on November 12 around 11 p.m. after blocking off the entire ward with military vehicles.
“Mr. Aung Khaing led the early protests against the military coup. When he was arrested last night (November 12), the whole ward was blocked with military vehicles. Mr. Aung Khaing and his nephew were taken away at their home after the whole ward was blocked. Mr. Aung Khaing is at the interrogation centre and his nephew is detained at Daiwunkwin Police Station. Mr. Aung Khaing is being interrogated by the junta interrogation team at Kan Thone Kan on the Mawlamyaing Mountain,” said the local news source.
It is said that the main aim of the instruction to arrest and interrogate those who took part in the early protests is to cut the flow to finances to NUG and PDF.
