MYANMAR – Chinese armed forces will be deployed to the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Project in Rakhine State, a collaboration project between the junta council and China, for security and they have plans to install high-grade jammers, scouting drones and landmines around the project zone, according to a military source.
The security team to defend the Chinese investments in the project is led by Major General Kyaw Shwe Tun and includes Chinese security forces and technicians, and it is said that the security plans will be implemented soon.
“It will not be just security technology in Kyaukphyu Zone. There will also be upgraded jammers, scout drones will be spread all around, and high-explosive landmines will be planted around the project zone to prevent infiltration. Armed forces will arrive from China as well. We don’t know yet how many of them will be arriving.
They will mainly be in charge of the security of the project and the security of the Chinese experts and employees,” said the military news source.
The joint venture security company for Kyaukphyu Special Project Zone, including China and the junta council, was formed in November and includes Major General Kyaw Shwe Tun, the chairman of the administration committee for the project zone, representatives from China’s CITIC Group Company, Chinese security team members, and technical experts.
A planning committee was formed then the joint venture security company by China and the junta council for the Kyaukphyu Project Zone were formed in a rush.
Major General Kyaw Shwe Tun is also the commander of Southern Navy Command and he was appointed as the chairman of the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Administration Committee by the junta council in 2023.
