YANGON DIVISION – A 60-year-old Rakhine ethnic, Dr. Oo Ko, a flight passenger from Kyaukphyu, Rakhine State was wrongfully arrested by the Military intelligence at the Yangon Airport without any reasons, the friends of the victim reported.
On July 16, at 1:30 p.m., when the flight from Kyaukphyu arrived at Yangon Airport, the Rakhine ethnic medical doctor was wrongfully arrested by junta soldiers. Dr. Oo Ko is an employee of Posco International (OGT) and the reason why he was arrested was not known. It is said that all contact with him has been lost following the arrest.
A similar case happened in Malarmyaing 8th Street in Ward 16, Hlaing Township, Yangon where the three Rakhine men who moved from Kyaukphyu were also arrested by junta soldiers at 8:00 p.m. on July 17.
“All three Rakhine young men are married. The junta soldiers and police came in a civilian car and arrested them. We think the junta informers from the ward reported them. While sitting beside the irrigation in Malarmyaing 8th Street, they were arrested. We lost contact with them. The family don’t know where they were taken. And their wives were crying,” reported a local resident.
Facing with military defeats in Rakhine State, the junta council is arresting the migrated Rakhine people and their families in Yangon without any reasons. The junta council also issued instructions to the wards to report to related districts and townships if there are people who migrated from Rakhine and registered as guests.
