KAREN STATE- Last Monday morning (September 30), there was fierce fighting in the military council’s Swel-Taw-Gone camp (artillery hill) near Laykaykaw Town, on the south of Myawaddy City.
A Karen military source reported that the joint forces of the Cobra column were blocking and launching offensives on the military council’s artillery hill (Swel-Taw-Gone camp).
“I heard loud explosions, which might be the firing of the Cobra Column. The clash happened again yesterday. There were also aerial attacks by junta jets,” said a Karen military source.
Another Karen military source also said that the junta armory in Swel-Taw-Gone camp exploded and caught fire during yesterday’s battle.
“I heard that the ammunition depot/armory caught on fire,” he said.
Last September 13, there had been a fierce battle in that area, and the military council used Y-12 planes to aerial bomb.
Today’s battle (explosions) at Swel-Taw-Gone camp can reportedly be heard from Mae Sot City, Thailand.
The Swel-Taw-Gone artillery hill camp, which has been opening motor and heavy weapons on the Cobra (resistance) Column attacking the Aung Zeya Column of the military council, was surrounded and blocked the Cobra Column’s joint forces for some days and a fierce battle broke out on August 29.
The revolutionary forces attacked and captured military council camps in Thingyan Nyinaung and Lekaykaw towns in Myawaddy City, Karen State, and only the Swel-Taw-Gone artillery hill remains unoccupied.
The Swel-Taw-Gone artillery hill was frequently attacked by Cobra Column and joint forces in the past, but this time the place is surrounded and blocked. In addition, the Cobra Joint Forces reportedly captured the Yaykan Hill Guard Outpost at the base of Swel-Taw-Gone artillery hill on March 31.
