BAGO DIVISION – A man was injured in a landmine explosion in Mone Township and is receiving treatment at Taungoo Hospital.
A 50 year old man from Wand No. 4 in Mone was critically wounded in one leg after stepping on a landmine near his fields on November 22 morning.
“He was transferred to Taungoo in a timely manner and is now in the operation theatre. The military tension is high in the village,” said a resident of Mone.
Mone is part of Nyaunglebin District under KNU (Karen National Union) administration.
KNU has announced that four civilians were injured due to junta artillery shelling on November 20. In addition, there have been multiple landmine explosions in Mone Township and the residents are under high risks from landmines.
Over 1,000 people were killed by landmines in Myanmar in 2023, the highest in the world.
The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) stated on November 20 that Myanmar passed Syria to record the highest annual landmine deaths.
Revolutionary forces shared that the junta council would plant a large number of landmines in villages after raiding them, which result in frequent civilian casualties.
