YANGON DIVISION – Female Political Prisoners Association announced that a female political prisoner with a serious respiratory condition is placed in solitary confinement and prison staff are oppressing the female political prisoners in Insein Prison.
Two female political prisoners were placed in solitary confinement for visiting a fellow political prisoner to borrow a book on July 20 during bed time.
As one of those two was suffering from a serious respiratory condition, the female political prisoners in female cell blocks 1 and 2 demanded her release.
In response, junta subordinate prison officer The Zarchi Win called the male prison staff and beat up the female political prisoners with tasers and batons, stated Female Political Prisoners Association.
The junta prison staff including officers Ei Zarni Khaing, Thet Thet Zin and Mya Mya Khaing continued to abuse the female political prisoners on July 21 and it is reported that the condition of the unwell detainee placed in solitary confinement has deteriorated to a serious condition.
The Female Political Prisoners Association announced that there is no female prison warden at Insein Prison and that officer The Zarchi Win has been given deliberate orders to oppress the female political prisoners and suppress any riot in the cells.
