SOUTHERN SHAN STATE : It is known from refugee supporters that a private school with two classrooms is being built in Southern Shan state for the children who have fled their homes due to armed conflicts at Shan-Karenni border areas.
Although there were only 10 local households in the village, there are 800 children of schooling age fleeing from their homes due to intense armed conflicts, said refugee supporters.
“We are trying to open by June. It will be for up to Grade 11. There are CDM teachers and volunteer teachers for high school students. We’ll be also providing advanced training for volunteer teachers,” said a supporter there.
It is known that a Catholic priest has been leading for more than a year for building a private school and livelihood for the IDP people in Southern Shan State and Karenni State.
Even though it’s been a year since then, 80% of students of Grade 8 and above are willing to access education, said refugee supporters.
“This school is already acknowledged by NUG but it still needs a lot of support, especially financial aid. There is no support for the school at the moment,” he added. Separate rooms will be included for boys and girls as a boarding-school.
According to local news sources, there are more and more displaced people for about 200,000 people from Karenni State and over 6,000 from Southern Shan State due to more intense battles between junta forces and PDF.
